Who is Hiram Barsky?
Hiram Barsky is the founder and principal designer of Barsky Design, a product and AI design studio based in Clifton, New Jersey, in the New York City metro area. He spent more than fifteen years as a design lead inside PNC, Bank of America, Deloitte, KPMG and Tata Consultancy Services, working on enterprise products where compliance rules, legacy systems and many stakeholders shape what is possible. He now designs AI-first products end to end and builds them himself in React and TypeScript, which means an engagement can finish with working software rather than a handoff file. Products he has designed and shipped this way include HerbaLink, a marketplace connecting people to verified herbalists; NudgeMe, a natural-language reminder app; Stips, a social prediction-markets platform; and a Design ROI Calculator that turns UX outcomes into a defensible business case. What does an AI product designer do?
An AI product designer designs the entire experience of a product whose core value comes from a model, not just the screens surrounding it. That means designing the interaction model, the interface, and — most importantly — how the AI behaves when it is confident, when it is uncertain, and when it is simply wrong. Traditional UX assumes a deterministic system: press the button, get the result. AI products are probabilistic, so the design has to answer questions conventional interface work never raises. How much should a person trust any single answer? What does the product show while it is thinking? How does someone correct it without starting over? What happens when the model returns something plausible but false? Designing honestly for confident, uncertain and wrong is the difference between a demo that impresses in a meeting and a product people rely on.
Are you available for freelance or contract work?
Yes. Barsky Design takes on freelance and contract product-design engagements, working remotely with clients across the United States and on-site around New York City and New Jersey when that helps. Engagements run project-based or on retainer, and the scope varies widely — a focused design sprint, a design system, a research-led redesign, or a full concept-to-production build where the studio designs the product and ships the code. The studio also takes white-label and overflow work from agencies and development shops whose design demand has outrun their capacity. The first thirty-minute call is free and is where scope gets defined; you leave that call with a clear picture of the work and its shape whether or not you decide to hire the studio.
Can you both design and build the product?
Yes, and it is the studio's main differentiator. Most design engagements end with a Figma file, which means the client still has to find engineers, brief them, and hope the built product resembles the design. Barsky Design designs the experience and then builds it in production React and TypeScript, so the engagement can end with software that is deployed and working. That removes an entire handoff, along with the interpretation losses that happen inside it, and it removes a hire from the client's plan. It also changes the design itself: when the person drawing the interface is the person who has to build it, the design accounts for real constraints — loading states, error states, empty states, what happens on a phone — instead of discovering them late.
Where are you located and who do you work with?
Barsky Design is based in Clifton, New Jersey, inside the New York City metro area, and works with clients remotely across the United States. Three kinds of client come to the studio. Founders at seed to Series A who have engineers but no designer, or a product that works and feels rough. Agencies and development shops that need white-label or overflow design capacity and want a whole feature returned designed and built rather than merely specced. And product teams at larger companies who need a design system, a research-led redesign, or a senior hand on a problem that has stalled. The studio is led by a founder with more than fifteen years inside Fortune 500 banks and consultancies, which is why it is comfortable in environments where compliance, legacy systems and many stakeholders constrain the work.
